Kids Can Ride (2011)
In term 2, the senior students all took part in the Kids Can Ride program. The program ran for five days. Over the five days, the instructors, Cindy, Lucy, Iris and Vanessa had a fabulous time teaching the children how to make sure their bike is safe to ride, the basic road rules for cycling, and how to ride their bike safely on and off road.
The kids had a fantastic time, learnt lots and the year fives can’t wait for next year so they can do it again.

Report Writing
In term 2 and 3 the Room 13 students have been focusing on report writing and have written some really great reports on sloths and animals of their choice.
Sloths By Gene Hughes
Sloths
Sloths are tree dwellers and are considered to be the slowest moving mammal on earth.
Sloths are about the size of a cat and are very unique. They have a small head, inconspicuous ears, long dangly legs and sharp curved claws. Sloths can turn their head at a 270 degree angle and cannot stand on its feet, so instead drags itself for transport.
Sloths live high up in the forest canopy of tropical America. The only thing they do all day is eat sleep and sun themselves. When they move it looks a bit like slow motion and it can take a day to move from one tree to another.
Sloths have very poor eye sight and hearing and mostly feed on the bad leaves but have a specially adapted stomach to help to break down the food. It can take 8 days to digest its food.
Sloths have very few defences. One of them is its claws. It uses its claws to scratch potential threats. Sloths are not often seen with other sloths.
Mother sloths give birth to one baby sloth a year and have a six month pregnancy. Mothers give birth hanging upside-down off a tree branch. Sloths can have a 20 year life span in the wild.
Sloths depend on the rain forests and deforestation is a major threat to sloths.
